Oarsome adventures

by Janet

Happy Monday. Great to see bright blue sky in sunny Sussex today – perfect weather for my latest commission, a 1,200 word feature about kayaking.

So far I’ve had one lesson, courtesy of the delightful Phil Smith at Fluid Adventures, and another one is on the cards for this week – weather permitting. Ah, it’s not a bad job.

Love this shot of a selection of charming vintage oars – ideal for lending a splash of colour and coastal air to any home.

New Bohemian Collection from Vanessa Arbuthnott

by Janet

1

What a lovely end to the week. Just taken a call from a very enthusiastic lady that went along the lines of: “My friend has an amazing house and would be really keen for it to appear in a magazine. Every single room is gorgeous!” I can’t wait to see the shots.

This weekend, with rather autumnal weather on the cards, I’m determined to crack on with a few bedroom makeover tasks. I recently ordered some matt chrome retro-style switches online and am delighted that they are now in situ and looking good beside the Rockett St George wall lamps.

In between the long list of jobs on the To Do list, I’m aiming to find a few moments to browse through the latest Vanessa Arbuthnott catalogue that’s just plonked through the letterbox. Her new Bohemian Collection (pictured) has a truly romantic theme, inspired by the countryside and Vanessa’s rural roots in the heart of Gloucestershire.

Thanks very much to Diana, Claire, Gillian, Tilly, Tilli and Simone for taking the time to pop over to my Facebook page and also for all the follows on Twitter.

Whatever you are up to this weekend, I hope it’s a good one.

Check out Harriet’s Attic and The Vintage Home Shop

by Janet

It’s funny how things work out. A few months ago, the lovely Caroline Gwynne from Harriet’s Attic happened to mention that her friend Minnie Craske owns a gorgeous home that she reckoned would be ideal for a feature.

Well, Caroline was spot on and I’m delighted that Minnie’s wonderful townhouse in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, is now making a star appearance in the current (October) issue of 25 Beautiful Homes.

Both Caroline and Minnie have their finger on the pulse when it comes to creating delightful homes and Minnie’s elegant property is crammed full of interesting pieces of furniture and eye-catching accessories from both their flourishing businesses, Harriet’s Attic and The Vintage Home Shop.

Big thanks to Caroline for the tip-off and to Minnie for all her co-operation and input with the feature. Why not grab a copy, pop the kettle on and make the most of the Indian summer with a quiet browse through 25 Beautiful Homes in the sun today?

Everybody needs good neighbours

by Janet

IMG_1070

How kind is this? A new neighbour popped in yesterday evening with this pretty gift and a little floral card. I’d never met this lady in my life before and was really touched by her thoughtfulness and friendly manner.

Her surprise gesture got me thinking about how important it is to have good neighbours. Thankfully, I’m very lucky in this department. However, in the course of my job, I occasionally hear sad stories about bitter battles between neighbours – never good.

This couple are just in the process of moving in but, when they are settled, I’ll be popping round with an aim of making them feel very welcome.

Working for Chichester Harbour Conservancy’s News & Guide

by Janet

Heading out shortly to interview for Chichester Harbour Conservancy’s News & Guide. I discovered this fabulous area about ten years ago and, with views like this on my doorstep, no wonder I absolutely love living and working here! 🙂

If you live near the harbour too, you’ll know what I mean. If you don’t, then come along and visit this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. I can guarantee that it will be worth it.IMG_4397

BoConcept cutting a dash near Paris

by Janet

IMG_8282

Good weekend? Hope so. In between taking to the water during a new venture at Chichester Harbour (more on that at a later stage…), dog walking at West Wittering beach and a hard day’s shopping with my teenage daughter (her word, not mine! :-)), I finally managed to grab a few minutes to sort out some shots that I’ve been meaning to post for a couple of weeks.

These photos were taken in BoConcept during our recent family break to Paris. When I booked the holiday, I’d no idea that we’d be staying just a stone’s throw from one of the largest shopping centres in Europe – honest! It was truly vast but, sadly, a little lacking in interiors stores.

OK, so it wasn’t the quaint brocante I’d been secretly hankering after, however, on a contemporary tack, BoConcept at Val d’Europe is pretty cool…n’est-ce pas?

P.S. I particularly liked that dining table…wow!

Vintage-inspired house set to star in 25 Beautiful Homes

by Janet

971583_573612282696016_515802333_n

Good morning. Hope your weekend was as action packed as mine turned out to be. Bit of a whirlwind but great fun.

Have to confess that I’m quite looking forward to writing captions in the office this morning since, apart from needing to crack on with the rest of a feature, I could actually do with sitting down for a few hours!

Lovely to read these words from fabulous homeowner Minnie Craske’s Facebook page, The Vintage Home Shop, this morning – what a great start to the week. ‘Just sat down with my cup of coffee and to look through my magazine 25 Beautiful Homes and this is what I found! Our house is going to be featured in next month’s issue (October 2013) of 25 Beautiful Homes and this issue comes out 29th August 2013….very exciting! :))) x’

Minnie, who recently launched The Vintage Home Shop, is passionate about all things vintage and this love, as well as her impeccable eye for detail and colour, is reflected in her stunning home, situated in Tunbridge Wells, Kent.

Actually, I can’t wait to see Minnie’s feature in print myself…

Parisian delights

by Janet

IMG_8687

Bonjour…just getting back in the swing of things here after a magical action-packed break in Paris.

I’ve visited this beautiful city several times in the past and, having regularly spotted Parisian images on various Facebook pages over the last while, I felt an overwhelming urge to return this summer.

Well, the city certainly didn’t disappoint and the weather was perfect, with sunshine and blue sky every day – ideal for plenty of photo opportunities. I’ve attached a small selection of our holiday snaps below. 🙂
