\"IMG_9456\"<\/a>Strolling into the brand new Susie Watson Designs store in Chichester a few months ago, the excitement in the air was palpable.<\/p>\n

Animated staff were clearly (and understandably!) on a high about the fantastic ranges of classic contemporary fabrics and pottery, all beautifully displayed throughout the truly delightful two-storey shop.<\/p>\n

In fact, the only thing that seemed in any way out of place in this haven for home-lovers was the slightly odd drilling noise coming from an area behind a wall jam-packed with Susie Watson paint pots. The mystery was solved when one of the bubbly assistants, who could hardly contain her enthusiasm, revealed: \u201cThe builders are just putting the finishing touches to a brand new craft and interior design centre.\u201d<\/p>\n

Weeks later, I received an email from Susie Watson Designs kindly inviting me along to one of their interior design courses with a focus on creating a mood board.<\/p>\n

Well, wild horses couldn\u2019t hold me back and on Monday morning I hotfooted it along to Susie Watson Designs and arrived to find the purpose-built craft and design centre now complete with large worktables, an array of smart sewing machines and plenty of space for courses as diverse as making a Christmas decoration to learning how to knit.<\/p>\n

Heading up the session was Debbie Bailey, an experienced freelance interior designer, who instantly made Maureen, Valerie, Jennifer and me feel more than welcome in this now totally serene environment with not a drill in sight.<\/p>\n

Within seconds, a slice of cake and steaming hot cup of coffee in a pretty Susie Watson mug (of course!) appeared, as we all discussed our reasons for coming on the interior design course and what we hoped to get out of it.<\/p>\n

Before plundering the vast array of striking fabrics, trimmings and paints to create individual mood boards, Debbie offered sound advice about the importance of considering colour, pattern and shape, texture and aspect when creating a new scheme for any room in the house.<\/p>\n

\u201cCreating a mood board allows you to see the interplay between various elements in a room, in particular wall coverings and soft furnishings and to experiment before making a significant outlay,\u201d Debbie explained.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Susie Watson range is particularly good and one of its enduring qualities is that it\u2019s timeless. You can also keep on adding to it over the years to ring the changes.\u201d<\/p>\n

After listening to Debbie\u2019s decorating tricks and tips, we were fired up and ready to roll.<\/p>\n

With so many fabulous fabrics and combinations to choose from, I have to confess that suddenly I felt just like a child in a sweetshop – slightly bamboozled as to where on earth to start with my imaginary scheme. However, a stylish sofa covered in a duck egg and ivory thick weave cotton was calling to me and, before long, I was dashing around the store gathering a selection of fabrics for my mood board.<\/p>\n

It was amazing to watch all the different schemes coming together, reflecting the different personalities of the participants. Living room and dens were the order of the day and we all worked together, bouncing ideas off Debbie and each other to come up with a range of fabulous mood boards.<\/p>\n

We all agreed that we\u2019d got a lot out of the course and the ladies just can\u2019t wait to make their schemes a reality.<\/p>\n
